Eight of the World’s Best Women’s Rugby Sevens Teams Set to Clash in Vegas
 
BOULDER, Colo. – The sixth annual USA Women’s International 7s Invitational is set to kickoff in Las Vegas on Friday February 10 and a champion will be crowned on Sunday February 12.
 
The USA Women’s National Sevens team will play host to Japan, Canada, The Netherlands, France, and Brazil along with one developmental team from Canada and one from the USA.
 
The eight teams are divided into two pools.  Pool A consists of USA, France, Japan, and the Maple Leafs, the Canadian developmental side.  Pool B will see Canada, The Netherlands, Brazil, and Stars & Stripes, the USA developmental team square off on the first day of the tournament.
 
Day one will see pool opponents go toe-to-toe and days two and three will see the competition heat up as the Plate and Cup competitions get underway.
 
Most of the matches will be held at the Star Nursery Fields, just outside UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium.  The Cup semifinals, consolation, and final will all be played in Sam Boyd Stadium.
 
The women’s tournament will be webcast live on usarugby.org and USA Rugby’s Facebook Fan page.  Results will be also posted in real time on USA Rugby’s website.
 
The women’s tournament is held in conjunction with both the USA Sevens, the fifth stop on the HSBC Sevens World Series, and the Las Vegas Invitational, the largest rugby tournament in North America.

PCRFU Looking for All-Star Coaches

The Pacific Coast RFU is looking for a volunteers to fill three all-star Head Coach positions:
Women's senior 15s all-star team
Women's senior 7s all-star team
Women's collegiate 15s all-star team

Position descriptions are as follows:

Position Title: Women’s 15s Grizzly Head Coach (Volunteer position) 

Overview: Women’s 15s Grizzly Head Coach will be responsible for program development, general coaching and selection duties. Head Coach reports to the PCRFU Women’s High Performance Coordinator.

Position Status: The PCRFU Women’s Grizzly Program has been very competitive and has placed numerous players in the USA Rugby Women’s National Team pool.  The goal for 2012, possibly the final year of the NASC to be played by territorial teams, is to continue that success.

Term: 1-year appointment minimum

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Submit to the High Performance Coordinator a Grizzly Program Plan which documents the Grizzly team activities, calendar and staff;
  • Plan and attend Women’s Grizzly selection/development camps and select players; OR coordinate and attend a Grizzly Shield Tournament (a competition between LAU teams) and select players;
  • Coach the Women’s Grizzly Team;
  • Select coaching staff (assistants), manager, and athletic trainer;
  • Prepare and submit team budget, or direct budget preparation by manager;
  • Attend USA Rugby All Star Championships held in June
  • Work with the USA Rugby Women’s National Team Program to bring the Grizzlies in alignment with the technical philosophy of the National Team.
  • Work with PCRFU Women’s Collegiate and 7’s Grizzly Team Coaches and Women’s High Performance Coordinator to develop continuity of programs and a coherent development progression for PCRFU Women players
  • Adherence to USA Rugby’s Coaches Code of Conduct and the USOC Coaching Ethics Code (attached)
  • USA Rugby Coach Level II or Developing Rugby Skills Certification desired.

Position Title: Women’s U23 Grizzly Head Coach (Volunteer position) 

Overview: Women’s U23 Grizzly Head Coach will be responsible for program development, general coaching and selection duties. Head Coach reports to the PCRFU Women’s High Performance Coordinator.

Position Status: The PCRFU Women’s Collegiate (formerly U23) Grizzly Program is 13 years old and has been competitive in the USA Rugby U23/Collegiate NASC. The goal for 2012, possibly the final year of the NASC to be played by territorial teams, is to continue that success and increase emphasis on placing players on the USA Rugby Women’s Collegiate National Team.

In addition to Pacific Coast Collegiate Players, players from the North division of the Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference will also be eligible for the team

Term: 1-year appointment minimum

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Submit to the High Performance Coordinator a Grizzly Program Plan which documents the Grizzly team activities, calendar and staff;
  • Plan and attend Women’s Grizzly selection/development camps and select players; OR coordinate and attend a Grizzly Shield Tournament (a competition between LAU teams) and select players;
  • Coach the Women’s U23 Grizzly Team;
  • Select coaching staff (assistants), manager, and athletic trainer;
  • Prepare and submit team budget, or direct budget preparation by manager
  • Attend USA Rugby All Star Championships held in June
  • Work with PCRFU Women’s 15’s and Women’s 7’s Grizzly Team Coaches and Women’s High Performance Coordinator to develop continuity of programs and a coherent development progression for PCRFU Women players
  • Work with the USA Rugby Women’s National Team Program to bring the Grizzlies in alignment with the technical philosophy of the National Team.

Registration fee is $150.  Preferred method of payment is via paypal to allblues7s@gmail.com.  Just send a personal payment to that email address and include your team name in the notes.  If you would prefer to send a check, please make it out to the Berkeley All-Blues, c/o Sarah Davis, 201 Harrison, Apt 311, San Francisco, CA 94105.
 
Additionally, if you could just reply to this email with your Team Name, how many teams you are entering, and how you intend to pay that would be incredibly helpful :)  If you would like to add an additional contact person for you team, please let me know that too.
 
Billeting:
 
We want to make this tourney as affordable as possible for you all, so we would love to host you out of towners!  Billeting will be available on a first come, first serve basis- so let me know ASAP if you are going to require billeting.
 
Social:
 
There will also be an awesome social after the tourney.  Location TBD, but it will be a good time.
