  • Stanford Beats Santa Clara, Clinches Playoff Berth This weekend Stanford booked their flights to Santa Barbara for the west championships, with a solid win over a team that has come a long way, Santa Clara. Stanford traveled to Santa Clara and took care of business winning 39-18 Here Coach Matt Sherman speaks about the game, "I'm very proud of our team. We had a solid performance today to beat an improved Santa Clara team, but more importantly we have made steady improvements all season to be able to win our league and now compete in the playoffs.   • Hornets Finish Season With Win Over Chico State 31-5 Senior lock Joel Scott (pictured right with ball) and senior outside center Sundi Cummings (pictured left) contributed the Hornet’s offensive effort each scoring a try in Saturday’s 31-5 victory over the Wildcats! #12 Sacramento State Hornets traveled to Chico State over the weekend for the final match of the 2011 season.  With eleven graduating seniors leading the way in the starting lineup, the Hornets defeated the Wildcats 31-5 in a tough, physical matchup to finish the league season 5-1, and 12-4 overall.

It may all come down to the one point Stanford was able to get by being within a try in their only loss to Sac State when they met for the second time two weeks ago. Stanford kept their one point advantage this weekend with a 34-15 win over Chico at home. Stanford got on the board first 13 minutes in with their #15 Henderson scoring and Lijenquist converting.   • Sac State Hornets Win Close Contest against Stanford Cardinals 17-14 From sacstatemensrugby.com#17 Sacramento State Hornets defeated #9 Stanford Cardinal 17-14 on Saturday afternoon in a very close, physical contest.  In a game that was tied 7-7 at the half, the Hornets came out victorious in the end scoring a total of 3 tries against Stanford’s 2.  This now puts Sacramento State (3-1) and Stanford (3-1) tied for the top spot in the Northern California Division-1 Conference.  Each team has two games left against Chico State and Santa Clara to decide who wins the Nor Cal league and goes on the the USA Rugby national playoffs.Photos by Norcalrugby here
